金沢Hokuriku
Kanazawa escaped major wartime bombing, so its Higashi Chaya and Kazuemachi teahouse streets, Nagamachi samurai lanes and many ordinary machiya townhouses are still standing. Overseas buyers are drawn to restoring these lattice-fronted homes, many of them now a short walk from the Hokuriku Shinkansen terminal.
Locals say you can forget your lunch in Kanazawa but never your umbrella. Between frequent rain and heavy, wet winter snow, the timber and earthen walls of a machiya are constantly under strain. MonoHaus coordinates traditional craftsmen, keeps unoccupied townhouses aired and dry, and reports on their condition in English.

地域の特徴Local know-how
Kanazawa protects its historic townscape, and changes to facades and exteriors in protected districts usually need approval. We help you plan renovations that respect the rules and line up craftsmen who know Kanazawa machiya.
Rot at the base of lattice fronts and rain-damaged earthen walls are typical problems here. We check sills, gutters and wall plaster regularly, and arrange yukitsuri-style protection for garden trees before the snow arrives.
