軽井沢Chubu
Karuizawa has been a summer retreat since foreign missionaries built cottages here in the late nineteenth century, and today its larch forests are full of besso holiday villas belonging to Tokyo families and owners abroad. It sits on a high plateau below Mount Asama and is about an hour from Tokyo on the Hokuriku Shinkansen.
The altitude that keeps summers cool brings fog, persistent damp and moss in summer, and winters well below freezing. Pipes freeze and burst in houses that haven't been drained. MonoHaus opens and closes villas for the season, deals with damp and forest upkeep, and keeps owners abroad informed in English.

地域の特徴Local know-how
Karuizawa homes are usually drained for winter (mizunuki) so trapped water cannot freeze and split pipes, water heaters or toilets. We drain and refill on your schedule, check heaters, and inspect after cold snaps.
Summer fog and shade let mould and moss take hold fast in closed-up villas. We air rooms, run dehumidifiers, clear gutters of larch needles, and arrange tree work, keeping to the town's strict rules on preserving the forest landscape.
