Registering inherited property in the heir's name — mandatory since April 2024.
Since 1 April 2024, heirs must register inherited real estate within three years of learning of the inheritance, or risk a non-criminal fine of up to ¥100,000. Inheritances from before April 2024 are included, with a deadline of 31 March 2027. If heirs haven't agreed on division, a simpler declaration of heirship can meet the duty for now.
